Kim and Danny’s home in Brighton is a vibrant reflection of community, culture, and family. Designed with two young children and a love for cooking and hosting in mind, the heart of the home is a flexible living, dining, and gathering space that flows from the sidewalk to a sheltered back porch—welcoming everyday life and larger community events alike.

A deck and ramp ensure accessibility from the street, while color and artwork guide guests through the space with warmth and playfulness. Sliding doors connect the indoors to the outdoors, creating seamless transitions for family dinners, yoga sessions, or neighborhood gatherings. Their main bedroom offers a peaceful retreat with space for gear from their active lifestyle, and an attached ADU provides room for visiting relatives or community members.

A highlight of the project was collaborating with Kim’s cousin, artist Howie Shia of PPF House, on a mural that ties the home together. Featuring imagery of water and fish and a poem by their grandfather, the artwork honors Kim and Danny’s Chinese and Japanese heritage—embedding their family story into the very walls of the home.

This home is more than a dwelling—it’s a space for connection, tradition, and growth.
